An oak and softwood cabin on the campsite at Cwmdu near Crickhowell, built as a glamping pod and now the reception and changing room for a sauna and cold plunge business.

We met Sarah and Calvin when they hired our oak frame marquee for their wedding, which they held at the campsite at Cwmdu, on the other side of Crickhowell from us.
They came back to us with an idea for the site: a luxury glamping pod. We put some provisional concepts together, showed them what could be done and talked through the design with them. They liked it and asked us to go ahead.
The cabin is a hybrid. The main living area is a softwood construction — softwood wall panels and a softwood roof structure — with the oak concentrated where it carries the building and where it is seen.
An oak ridge runs the full length of it, front to back, carrying the roof. At the front there is an oak entrance porch with sling braces, which is what you meet on the approach and what gives the cabin its face.
It sits with its glazed doors and its deck facing out across the valley.
We supplied and installed the structure: the oak frame and the secondary softwood structure behind it.
Sarah and Calvin took on the groundworks themselves, and they had a team capable of the rest, so once our part was standing their own people fitted the doors and carried out the whole fit-out. A week or two on site for us.
Their plans changed after it was built. Instead of letting it as a glamping pod they started a small business from it — Cwmdu Contrast, whose sauna and cold plunge trade under the name Fire & Ice.
The cabin is now the reception and changing area, and the sauna and cold plunge sit on a deck behind it.
