What we've built

What have we built?

Oak frame projects across Monmouthshire, the Wye Valley, the Brecon Beacons, Herefordshire and further afield, from porches and garden structures to full houses and barn conversions. Filter by what you are building, or find one near you on the map. Each one says what we made and how it went.

Where do we work?

Our workshop is at Pantygelli, just outside Abergavenny. We design and build within about 90 minutes' drive of it. We supply and install within two and a half hours, and elsewhere in the UK case by case. We also supply oak frames anywhere in the UK for other people to erect.

Oak frame hipped gazebo — Gilwern

A hipped oak frame gazebo off the back of Angela's house at Gilwern, projecting 3 m over a new patio, with its tiled roof tied into the roof of the house. We supplied and installed the oak frame, the softwood roof structure and the tiles in 2024; Angela's own builders laid the patio and the pad footings under the staddle stones.

A small oak gable porch tucked into the corner between a red-brick house and its garage, for Gill. Curved braces, a boarded half-height panel on the open side and a detailed bargeboard under a slate roof. Signed in August 2025 and finished that September.

Oak frame porch on stone plinths — Llantilio Crossenny

An open oak porch on stone plinth walls at Llantilio Crossenny for Ellis and Rachel, installed in December 2021. The walls are 600 mm high so there is somewhere to sit and get boots off. The frame is detailed throughout: curved jowl posts, a curved tie beam and curved braces, under a double-rafter roof. We designed it and built the frame and roof; their own builder built the plinth walls to our drawing.

An open oak gable porch on a whitewashed cottage in Abergavenny for Mary, built in April 2024. The path runs past the door on all three sides, so the porch is deeper than usual to keep every way past it open. Mary had her paving laid first and supplied her own clay tiles, and we built the porch to suit. There is oak boarding under the roof and a pendant light at the ridge. Designed and built by us.

An open oak lean-to porch on a stone cottage at Newcastle, near Monmouth, for Kev and Liz, built over the winter of 2021–22. A window directly above the door ruled out a gable. Two posts on staddle stones, no plinth, and the existing flagstones left where they were. They chose it because it makes more of the entrance and hides a pipe and a vent. Full design and build.

An open oak gable porch on a sandstone barn at Llantilio Crossenny for Kevin, finished in February 2022. All the posts go straight to the ground on staddle stones, which is the simplest way to build a porch and keeps the basework down. Full design and build.

A replacement oak frame porch at Mamhilad for Julian, built in 2022. There was wall on one side only, and he wanted the front and the other side left open, so one side is cantilevered off the wall rather than standing on a post. Julian had the side openings glazed himself afterwards. Full design and build.

An open oak gable porch at Penpergwm for Toby and Clare, built in 2022 as their new house went up. The brief was to take a plain new-build front and give it the look of a country cottage. We supplied and installed the oak frame; the plinths, roof and paving were done by others. The oak has since silvered.

An open oak lean-to porch at Trellech for Lyn and Celia, finished in March 2023. They didn't like the fake arch detail around their front door and wanted the porch to hide it. It needed planning permission, which Lyn applied for himself, and the frame went up in the snow. Before deciding, Lyn went to look at one of our porches at Newcastle, near Monmouth.

An oak frame porch in Abergavenny for Alan, built in 2021 off a base wall he already had and wanted to keep. The porch was designed to match that wall rather than replace it, so the frame and roof were ours and the base was already there.
