Yes, if it's an open porch. We sell open porch frames supply only, anywhere in the UK: the oak frame cut, numbered and ready to raise, with assembly drawings, designed by us and checked by our consulting engineer. Your builder does the base, raises the frame, puts the roof covering on and makes good. It is £2,500 to £5,000 including VAT, depending on size, rates at 9 October 2026. It's the smallest job we take on. We don't sell glazed porches this way.
If you've been searching for an "oak porch kit", supply only is what we call it.
What do you get with a supply-only porch frame?
The oak frame and the timber that goes with it.
- The structural oak frame, cut, numbered and ready to raise.
- Any secondary softwood structure that goes with it.
- The roof structure. On a porch it comes with the frame, whichever way you buy it.
- The eaves, verge and bargeboards, supplied loose and over length for your builder to cut and fix.
- Assembly drawings, as standard.
The base, the roof covering, the raising and the making good are yours.
The oak is the same on every route: green oak, QPA visual grade and D30 strength class, sap-free, planed, every edge chamfered, and draw-pegged mortice and tenon joints throughout. Curved braces are cut from air-dried oak as standard, and air-dried oak can't be guaranteed sap-free, because it's bought already cut. What that specification means on a porch that stands outside is in What goes wrong with oak porches, and how do you stop it?

Who designs the frame, and who checks it?
We do both. The design and drawings are ours on every route, and we can work up a design from drawings you or your architect already have. Our consulting engineer checks every frame we cut, whoever drew it, and that includes supply only.
Every enquiry starts with a call, using photographs of the front of your house and your own design if you've made one. After that comes the design visit: about an hour at the house, with a 3D scan of where the porch will go. If you're buying supply only from outside our design-and-build area, the design visit costs £300 including VAT (£250 plus VAT), and we deduct it from the order if the job goes ahead.
How does the frame get to you?
We deliver it onto the site where access allows. If a lorry can't get in, we agree beforehand where it will be left. Supply only goes anywhere in the UK. Unloading is yours, by hand: two or three people can manage a porch frame. Tell us about access when you order.
What does your builder have to do?
Everything that isn't the frame. On a supply-only porch that's:
- The base. Posts on staddle stones or pads, or a plinth wall, built to suit the frame. It has to be sound and match the frame's size, level and position: a frame made to the millimetre in the workshop can't be put up properly on a base that's out. Which base suits your porch is in Should an oak porch stand on a plinth wall or go to the ground? Every supply-only frame comes with a setting-out drawing for the base.
- Raising the frame, from the assembly drawings.
- The roof covering, and whatever goes between it and the rafters. The choices, and what you'll look up at, are in What roof should an oak porch have?
- Fixing to the house, flashing, gutters and making good.
- The planning application, if the porch needs one. On supply only you apply, and we advise.
Is supply only the right way to buy a porch?
It's right if you have a builder who'll take the base, the raising and the roof, or you're too far from Abergavenny for us to build it. It's the wrong answer if you'd rather someone else raised the frame, or if you want one firm and one number.
There are two other ways to buy an open porch. On supply and install we make the frame and raise it, in a day; your builder does the base, your roofer the covering, and the making good is yours. We do it within two and a half hours of Abergavenny, and elsewhere in the UK case by case. On design and build we do everything from the design to the making good, within 90 minutes of Abergavenny.
A smaller part for us means a smaller invoice from us, not a cheaper porch: the base, the covering and the making good still have to be paid for by someone. What each way costs is in How much does an oak porch cost?, and the three ways of buying across everything we make are compared in Supply only, supply and install, or design and build.
FOXTAIL OAK. On an open porch, supply and install is a sensible middle route. There's no glazing to detail, so the part that has to be exactly right is the part we've already done on the bench, and raising it is a day's work for us. If you're within reach and unsure about the raising, that's the route we'd point you to.

Why can't I buy a glazed porch supply only?
Because on a face-glazed frame the materials are a small part of the job, and the rest is the detail and knowing it. Green oak keeps moving for years as it dries, and glass fixed the wrong way to a moving frame leaks. Sending you a box of parts would put our name on something we haven't built.
So a glazed porch from us is design and build, or supply and install, where we make the frame and fit the face glazing and the door. How the glass is kept dry is in How do you stop a glazed oak porch leaking?

How is supply only paid for, and what VAT is on it?
Twenty-five per cent when you order, and the balance ten days before the frame is dispatched. VAT is 20%. That's the rate on any work to an existing house, and on a frame supplied without being put up it's 20% even on a new house.
How long does it take?
When we raise a porch frame ourselves, it goes up in a day. On supply only, the time at the house is your builder's. Every quote comes with its own stage-by-stage programme, and we'll tell you the current wait for a workshop slot when you ask.
What should you send us?
A photograph of the front of your house, a rough width, your postcode, and a line on who's doing the base and the roof. That's enough for us to say whether supply only suits the job and what the frame will cost. The porch page is oak frame porches, and you can get in touch here.
